MultiChoice says it has been “inundated with requests to provide adult content on DStv”
Rumours about MultiChoice including pornography in its DStv offering have once again hit the headlines in a recent Die Burger article. According to the article MultiChoice is “considering broadcasting pornography and the possibility of creating new sex channels on DStv's satellite pay-TV service”.
A MultiChoice survey forms the foundation of this speculation where users were asked various questions related to adult content, and Die Burger highlighted questions asking respondent if they would be interested in "mixed pornography" (hardcore porn between 21:00 and 05:00 and soft porn between 05:00 and 21:00), hardcore porn 24 hours per day, or soft porn 24 hours per day on DStv.
Jackie Rakitla, MultiChoice’s GM of Corporate Affairs, confirmed these rumours, saying that MultiChoice has been inundated with requests to provide adult content on DStv over the last few months. “At this stage, we are only conducting research to establish the extent of the interest in adult content and the feasibility of introducing such a service,” says Rakitla.
“MultiChoice conducts research into viewers’ preference on an ongoing basis. There is a lengthy process of research and testing that is followed prior to any new service being launched,” added Rakitla. He said that a final decision has not yet been made on whether MultiChoice will introduce an adult content service.
